“DBT Defined,” an In-Person Presentation

You could say we’re offering up DBT in 3D! Learn about Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and its suitability for people who experience emotions very intensely at an in-person presentation on Monday evening, January 27th in Bedford MA.

Representatives from DBT Works in Concord will outline the structure of an intensive DBT program. There is much to learn about this growing, comprehensive therapeutic approach. The presentation will review the five modules of DBT skills training which include mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, interpersonal effectiveness, and middle path skills. The DBT Works website notes, “DBT leverages the tools of acceptance-based therapies (e.g., warmth, acceptance, support, validation, mindfulness) and those of change-based therapies (e.g., problem solving, skills training, behaviorism, exposure, behavioral activation).”

Sarah Immerman, PsyD, Director of Family Services, and Erika Esposito, PhD, Director of Research & Program Development will answer your questions about DBT, including defining “dialectical,” plus they’ll offer insight into how to learn more about the subject.

Logistics

The evening will start at 6:30 with dessert and social time and a thank you to our volunteers. Presentations will begin at 7:00. We’ll have a quick overview of our NAMI Central Middlesex affiliate’s activities last year. Then the conversation about DBT will commence.

Location: The Edinburg Center, 205 Burlington Road, Bedford MA, near the intersection of route 3 and route 62. Please park in the larger parking lot in the back of the building.
