President’s Message for March 2024

Wow, we have a lot of programs on the calendar! There are in person opportunities in communities across the full geography of our affiliate, from Concord to Waltham and Woburn, to Winchester and N. Reading in the east. Please check out the separate articles about Sharing Our Stories, a presentation from the perspective of family members, Basics Teacher Training, an opportunity to make a difference in the youth mental health crisis, and the NAMI signature Family to Family course. You can also choose to attend EmerSong, an a cappella performance fundraiser for behavioral health at Emerson Hospital.

Our our annual College and Your Mental Health webinar is taking registrations. We will also be supporting NAMI’s Medical Director, Dr. Ken Duckworth, at a private speaking event at Brandeis University, and we will have a party with our Clubhouse friends in April. Central Middlesex volunteers are all over the place while our support group facilitators remain, as always, dependably available. Thanks to all.

Coming up a few months later on our calendar is NAMI Walks Massachusetts. This year there will still be walking feet, fundraising for a cause dear to our hearts and important to our community, and an invigorating stigma free environment. The new location in the Boston Common opens up layers of fresh energy to the event. It dramatically increases our visibility to the public, accommodates more mental health support organization tents to peruse, and allows for fun activities like corn hole, face painting, and giant Jenga and Connect Four. Plus there will be snow cones and food vendors.

Check out the layout for the Walk location below and know that the large Boston Common parking garage is right on the premises. You won’t want to miss the fun and the meaningful community experience on Saturday, May 18th, so go ahead and register early! Remember to sign up to walk for our Central Middlesex affiliate. You can join one of our established teams or create your own. The fundraising effort, supported by the easy to use NAMI Walks platform, can ramp up whenever you’re ready. Folks are eager to support local mental health.

Our volunteers are working diligently to bring all these supportive healing programs to our communities. Please help us raise funds to ensure we can continue our empathetic outreach and education. Register in the buttons below.
