NAMI HelpLine for Teens and Young Adults (TYA)

The NAMI Teen and Young Adult (TYA) HelpLine is a new free, nationwide teen and young adult peer-support service providing information, resource referrals, and support to teens and young adults going through a difficult time.

TYA HelpLine staff and volunteers are experienced, well-trained young adults who provide open, peer-to-peer communication to teen and young adult help-seekers by phone, text, or chat. This is available Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET.

If you are a teen or young adult who needs help, or know somebody who does, reach out to the NAMI Teen and Young Adult (TYA) HelpLine. Call 1-800-950-6264, chat at nami.org/help or text "Friend" to 62640 or email helpline@nami.org. This is the same number as the original NAMI helpline. Those seeking the TYA HelpLine will be directed to press 3.

The NAMI Teen and Young Adult (TYA) HelpLine is not a hotline, crisis line, or suicide prevention line. If you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis, please chat, call, or text 988.

NAMI HelpLine Staff compiled a directory of outstanding resources to help teens, young adults, and their family members identify possible options to meet your mental health support needs. Throughout this directory you will find NAMI Knowledge Articles that provide detailed resources, support options, and information. Categories of interest include specific diagnoses, demographic communities, coping skills, relationships, school accommodations, and treatment options, among others. Click the button below to view the directory.

Staying with this topic of supporting youth, here is a NAMI Blog entitled “Strengthening Mental Health Support for Students.” A great deal of effort is being put into college mental health supports. Read more in the button below.
