Conference Committee Finalizing the Bill – Needs Approval

Hello Wilmington and N. Reading NAMI Members,

There is an amendment pending on the Criminal Justice Reform bill that would establish a Restoration Center pilot program in Middlesex County. The proposed 24-hour center would provide specialized crisis services specifically for mental health, substance use, and related issues where police officers could drop off an individual, explain the situation to a clinician, and know that the person will get the care they need – including the possibility of staying for a few days to stabilize.

State Senator Bruce Tarr, as one of eight legislators on the conference committee finalizing the bill, could approve this amendment for inclusion in the bill. Hearing from his constituents that they want this type of program would encourage him to do so. Please contact your senator this week, by Friday the 19th, and let him know you support mental health services.

It will only take a few minutes and could have a big impact on mental health crisis care in your county. Senator Tarr’s contact information:  Bruce.Tarr@masenate.gov, 617-722-1600.
